- 4.4 mile loop
- Elevation gain: 427 feet
- 1.5-2.5 hours
- Peaceful meadows and views of the Flatirons
Distance from Denver: 35 minutes
This easy hike showcases wide meadows with great views of Boulder’s Flatiron Meadows. However, the name of the trail is deceiving as you don’t get any views of Boulder Creek! If you’re looking for a nearby, tranquil hike, this could be a good fit for you, but you won’t find any especially unique or striking points of interest along the way.
Begin at the South Boulder Creek Trailhead and follow signs for South Boulder Creek Trail. Take this trail for 1.9 miles to the Mesa Trail, where you’ll make a right and go up the steepest hill of the trip (it’s not that bad). Then, take a right on the Big Bluestem Trail 0.1 miles to the Lower Bluestem Trail, where you’ll make another right. There may be some easy creek crossings involved in winter, spring, and early summer so prepare to get your feet wet. In 2.2 miles, you’ll pass through some beautiful, quirkily decorated homes and then find yourself back at the trailhead.
