This is one of the best foothill hikes near Denver – you’ll see great views of the Denver region, mountain peaks, and Red Rocks. It is a very gradual climb through forest and meadows that provides a slight challenge but it is much easier than many other mountain trails. Since much of the hike passes through open meadows, it is more beautiful in spring and summer before the meadows turn yellow in the fall.
Begin at the Mt. Falcon Park Trailhead. Take the Turkey Trot trail 1.7 miles uphill, then make a right on the Castle Trail, taking that for 1.2 miles. Make a right when you see a picnic area onto the Walker’s Dream Trail, which takes you 0.3 miles to the ruins of the Summer White House, an architect’s failed plan to build a summer home for the President in the Rockies. Return down the Walker’s Dream Trail, making a left on the Castle Trail and this time taking the Castle Trail all the way back to the parking lot for a nice loop.
